I had returned other external speakers, disappointed with the poor sound quality until I bought this one. I don't know what went wrong with the other reviewers' speakers, but mine are just fine and I recommend them all the time. In fact, I get comments from passengers all the time on how great the sound quality is for such small speakers.
An associate was demonstrating the i-P23 for someone and everyone's head turned. I agree that the clock features are a frustrating waste of time, but that wasn't the objective of my purchase. I got it at the Apple store while looking for speakers for my Shuffle.
It really uses up battery power though, so in my case, I wish there was a car charger power cord for it instead of the AC power cord. I was finally impressed with portable speakers. I've been using my i-P23 speakers (12 hours a day, M-F) for 10 months and they still sound great.
I sit my i-P23 on a little sponge (for shock absorption) on the floor of my bus right next to me and clean it with a compressed air duster. Sa-Da-Tay.
These speakers sound great and are very portable, great for parties or taking to the beach. Having read the other reviews I felt I must defend this product. As for the other person who's player died after three months, these things happen. One reviewer mentioned having trouble setting the clock. If you follow the instuctions it isn't too difficult, but chances are you will never use that feature anyway. Return it and give it another try. No product is perfect.
I tried putting batteries in, hoping the power cord was just bad but still nothing. I would love to be able to recommend this product. I loved the product but am disappointed that it barely lasted 3 months. The sound quality was great and the compact portability was everything you want. Unfortunately, after owning the product for a mere 3 months it just suddenly died one day. I've emailed the company too. They ALMOST have a great product and should make it right with their customers.
The instruction manual is also a real challenge for my perfect 20/20 vision. Actually setting up the time was not so bad, but other options like alarm clock is a challenge. They really are a wonderful portable little package with great sound. I think the problems started when I started switching the rooms I use.
Unfortunately trying to set up the time and or alarm clock is the most tedious and difficult thing to do. I've had these portable speakers for about two months. It must be in font 4 because I needed my husband's reading glasses. I just want it to work. Not that I realy need to do this.
It's hard to see the on/blue light unless you are indoors in a dark room. IN other words, I can't recommend this product for quality if it craps out after 2 months. Granted, they are intended for an iPod, however, they worked really with the Sansa. It shouldn't matter what wall I plug in the ac but now it just doesn't work. Just want to hear the music.
And if you hit any of the other buttons you are in trouble because that will interfere with the music coming on, say if you hit the snooze button by mistake. I've e-mailed the company, and we'll see if they come up with a solution. I will write up a sequel to this if I hear from the company.
